The United States Public Health Department makes surprise calls to cruise ships every now and then. When a cruise ship receives a perfect score of 100, it is good news for both the ship and cruise line – not to speak of the passengers. One ship received this noted distinction this year – the ms Eurodam cruise ship, which is part of the Holland America Line‘s sailing vessels. The USPH inspection happened on October 25, 2015, at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
At the time of the inspection, the ship was taking cruise guests on a seven-day Caribbean journey. Prior to this celebratory event, the ms Eurodam also received the same high rating in the same location on February 2015. The US Public Health Service reviews take place twice a year and are part of the Centers for Disease Control Vessel Sanitation Program.
It is notable for any cruise ship to receive high marks when its cleanliness is being checked, but it is downright amazing when a ship gets a perfect score, especially when the inspection is unannounced. Holland America apparently has a reputation for receiving 100 point scores for several of its ships as well. The ms Statendam received three consecutive scores of 100 while the Holland America Line’s ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Veendam, ms Ryndam, and ms Noordam achieved scores of 100 as well.
