Major Upgrade Underway in Malta
The MSC Magnifica refurbishment has officially started at the Palumbo Malta Shipyard, launching one of the most ambitious enhancement projects in MSC Cruises’ recent history. Entering service in 2010, the ship is now the first of two Musica Class vessels to undergo a full transformation, signaling MSC Cruises’ ongoing commitment to innovation and guest comfort.
Luxury Expansion and New Experiences
During the refurbishment, MSC Magnifica will gain the prestigious MSC Yacht Club, bringing 63 new suites and the brand’s hallmark of private luxury to the ship. Two specialty restaurants — Butcher’s Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar — will debut alongside a revitalized MSC Aurea Spa and a redesigned Technogym® Fitness Centre. The expanded wellness zone will feature a Gentleman’s Barber, additional workout studios, and an enhanced outdoor Aurea area, blending relaxation and style.
Once work concludes in December, guests will be able to enjoy the full MSC Yacht Club experience beginning in summer 2026, when the ship returns to service in Northern Europe. The refit positions MSC Magnifica among the most exclusive mid-sized ships in the fleet, redefining comfort for its future itineraries.
Sister Ship Follows in 2026
Following the MSC Magnifica refurbishment, sister ship MSC Poesia will enter dry dock at the same shipyard in February 2026 for a parallel upgrade. Her transformation will include 69 Yacht Club suites, an All-Stars Sports Bar, and the same signature dining and wellness additions. MSC Poesia will return in time for her Alaska debut in May 2026, offering the Yacht Club experience to guests sailing from Seattle.
Commitment to Fleet Excellence
The dual-ship renovation program represents one of the most extensive refit initiatives undertaken by MSC Cruises in over a decade. Designed and managed entirely by the company’s in-house Technical Department, the project reinforces the cruise line’s focus on delivering elevated onboard experiences and maintaining world-class standards across the fleet. Palumbo Malta Shipyard remains a strategic partner, known for its advanced refitting expertise and central role in European cruise maintenance.
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond
After completion, MSC Magnifica will sail from Warnemünde, Germany, on 16 May 2026, exploring Denmark, the Baltics, Scandinavia, and Finland. Later in the year, she will operate Mediterranean voyages visiting Barcelona, Civitavecchia for Rome, and Marseille before embarking on the 2027 MSC World Cruise — a 121-night journey to 45 destinations across 25 countries, showcasing the newly introduced MSC Yacht Club in grand style.
