A Modern Comeback for a Beloved Ship
After a two-week dry dock in Singapore, Holland America Line’s Westerdam welcomed guests back on January 18, 2026, launching a 14-day Far East Discovery voyage. The extensive Westerdam refurbishment introduces a brighter, more contemporary onboard atmosphere while respecting the ship’s traditional character. Guests immediately notice the improved flow of public areas and a renewed sense of comfort throughout the vessel.
A New Social Heart on Board
The Crow’s Nest has been completely reimagined as a more intimate entertainment space. Once primarily a lounge and game area, it now features a central stage designed for live music, talks, and special presentations. Holland America Line explains that upgraded lighting and sound systems allow the venue to host a broader range of activities, from lectures to small-scale performances. Fresh flooring and updated design elements create a cozy environment with sweeping sea views, making this space a key highlight of the Westerdam refurbishment.
Cabin Comfort Taken to the Next Level
Guests staying in staterooms will also benefit from the recent upgrades. Eleven new Ocean View cabins were added on decks one and seven, increasing accommodation options across the ship. Verandah staterooms and several suite categories now feature new carpeting, while deck eight bathrooms have been fully modernized with new fixtures, surfaces, and finishes. Around 300 additional cabins received refreshed décor and new flooring, ensuring a consistently updated feel. These improvements reflect how the Westerdam refurbishment focuses strongly on guest comfort and functionality.
Fresh Energy in Shared Spaces
Public areas throughout the ship have been carefully updated to enhance visual appeal and ease of movement. The Atrium now showcases new furniture, carpets, and wall coverings that create a lighter, more vibrant central gathering point. Similar upgrades extend to guest corridors, elevator lobbies, and the Greenhouse Spa & Salon. Dining spaces were also refreshed, including Canaletto’s interior makeover and new seating in Lido Market. Dive-In, the popular poolside eatery, now features a redesigned service counter for quicker ordering.
A Refined Approach to Onboard Shopping
The Effy Lounge has been transformed into an open, welcoming environment that blends browsing with relaxation. Originally added in 2023, the space now offers lounge-style seating and private consultation areas where guests can interact with jewelry specialists. This redesign is another standout element of the Westerdam refurbishment, creating a more personal and engaging retail experience.
With these enhancements, Westerdam begins a new chapter, offering travelers a more stylish and comfortable setting for future voyages.
