A Favorite Island Gets More Room To Unwind
RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay is moving into a broader guest experience that builds on what travelers have long associated with Carnival’s private island stop: white sand, clear water, and an easy beach-day rhythm. The expanded area adds complimentary loungers and umbrellas, while cabanas and daybeds give guests more privacy and shade by the shore. The update appears designed to widen comfort and capacity without replacing the island’s quieter character.
Dining And Drinks Move Closer To The Beach

The refresh gives RelaxAway a more developed food-and-beverage layout, including Orchid Beach Grill, Hibiscus Beach Grill, Luna Tide Beach Bar, Stay Awhile Beach Shack, and Lil’ Tiki Bar. These venues bring island-style meals, buffet service, shaded seating, and easier access to cold drinks. The south side is also being updated with new design touches and improved dining spaces, helping the established area feel connected to the expanded beachfront.
RelaxAway Makes Arrival Smoother
A major change is the new pier, which allows ships to dock directly and opens the island to Carnival’s Excel-class ships for the first time. That matters because tendering has historically shaped the pace of visits to Half Moon Cay, especially for larger ships and families carrying beach gear. Carnival also notes that guests may arrive by pier or water shuttle, while a new tram service is planned to connect the island’s different areas.
Walking Paths And Familiar Activities Stay In Focus

RelaxAway will also add Papaya Pathway, a scenic walking route for guests who prefer to explore on foot. Beyond the expanded beach setup, Carnival continues to highlight active options such as horseback riding, kayaking through protected lagoon areas, stingray encounters, snorkeling, and watercraft adventures. This balance matters because the island’s appeal comes from the choice between doing very little and adding a few hours of light adventure.
Part Of A Larger Destination Portfolio

Carnival places RelaxAway within its Paradise Collection, a group of exclusive Caribbean and Bahamian destinations that also includes Celebration Key and other port experiences across the region. The company says 22 ships currently call on the island, making the upgrades operationally significant for many itineraries departing from U.S. homeports. Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said, according to the company, that the destination’s natural beauty remains central, while the pier should allow more guests to reach the beachfront with less friction.
More Access Without Losing The Island Feeling
The expansion suggests a careful attempt to solve practical guest-flow issues without turning Half Moon Cay into an overly built-up resort stop. More shade, more places to eat, easier movement, and a direct docking option all support a smoother day ashore, especially as larger ships join future visits. For guests, the promise is not only more amenities but a beach day that feels easier from arrival to departure. If the work succeeds, the destination can welcome more people while protecting the calm character behind RelaxAway.
