Construction Starts In Monfalcone
Next-Generation Ace Class construction has officially begun with the steel-cutting ceremony for Carnival Destiny at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. Due for delivery in summer 2029, Carnival Destiny will be the first of three ships planned for the new class, followed by sister vessels scheduled for 2031 and 2033. During the ceremony, Carnival Cruise Line revealed the ship’s name through a 3D hologram, introducing a project intended to give the ocean a more prominent role throughout the onboard setting.
A Familiar Name Returns

The Carnival Destiny name carries particular importance for Carnival Cruise Line and Fincantieri. The original vessel, delivered in 1996, became the first cruise ship to exceed 100,000 gross tons and was the largest passenger ship in the world at the time. Reusing the name links the new ship with a landmark moment in Carnival’s development, while recognising a shipbuilding partnership that has continued for more than 30 years.
Next-Generation Ace Class Builds Around The Ocean
Carnival describes Carnival Destiny as an outward-facing megaship created to keep the sea in view from more areas on board. Its design will include an unusually high number of ocean-view balcony accommodations, a reworked lanai deck and more than 4.5 acres of glass. Expansive multi-storey windows are expected to open sightlines across public spaces, making the water visible beyond outer decks and selected lounges. The concept is about maintaining a stronger visual connection with the sea throughout the ship.
New Concepts Will Shape Life On Board
More than 70 percent of the ship’s venues and attractions will be concepts not previously offered by Carnival. The Next-Generation Ace Class will provide the framework for rethought dining, new bars and lounges, immersive entertainment and expanded outdoor areas. Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said the project builds on a name that changed cruising once before, while aiming to make Carnival Destiny feel more spacious, engaging and closely connected to the ocean. Her comments also suggest that the ship will retain Carnival’s familiar emphasis on accessible fun.
Scale Supports A Broader Guest Experience
Carnival has not yet disclosed every venue, but the scale of the project is central to its plans. The ship is being shaped to accommodate varied social, dining and leisure settings without allowing its size to weaken the relationship between indoor spaces and the surrounding ocean. Glass walls, open-air areas and broad sightlines should help public rooms feel less enclosed, while the redesigned lanai will strengthen the transition between interior and exterior decks.
Caribbean Destinations Form The Initial Programme Carnival Destiny will operate voyages connected with Carnival’s Paradise Collection, covering destinations in the Caribbean, The Bahamas and Mexico. Further information about restaurants, entertainment, accommodation and outdoor attractions is expected later in 2026. With delivery planned for summer 2029, Carnival Destiny will introduce the design principles, venue strategy and ocean-focused character intended to define the Next-Generation Ace Class.
