MSC Cruises and Cirque du Soleil have just formed an alliance where Cirque du Soleil has agreed to produce new productions and shows for MSC Cruises’ next-generation Meraviglia ships. The partnership will enable MSC Cruises to present two shows each night of its scheduled cruises.
The four Meraviglia vessels that will host the shows will feature a customized aft lounge that will highlight a circular stage – a co-creation of Cirque du Soleil. Meals will be served during the first production and drinks will be served during the second show.
The aft lounge on the cruise ships will measure 1,000 square meters and will accommodate seating for 200 diners, or 300 guests for shows that only feature entertainment. The first ship of the Meraviglia line will begin cruise travel in 2017 in the western Mediterranean. The 5,700-guest cruise ship will stop at such port-of-calls as Genoa, Marseille, and Barcelona.
MSC Cruises is Geneva-based and is the number one ship line in Europe, South Africa, and South America. Cirque du Soleil is a Quebec-based entertainment company. Cirque du Soleil is working exclusively on cruise entertainment shows with MSC.
